Eden Project

We are incredibly lucky here at the Eden Project to deliver a the Health Works for Cornwall project in an entirely unique way, based mainly around horticultural therapy and wellbeing.

As with all internal projects at Eden, we fully believe that there is a deep rooted connection between nature and wellbeing. What better way to improve your physical/mental health than by being in a quiet garden, harvesting produce that YOU have grown yourself to take home.

Starting in August 2021, Health Works for Cornwall at Eden, or ‘Sowing and Growing’ has welcomed lots of gardeners to ‘Vounder Garden’, part of Eden’s wider estate to take part in our horticultural wellbeing programmes.

We have two routes at Eden: a 12 week, 1 day a week ‘Ju’s Introduction to Gardening’ course run by Julia Durbin and James Clarke, our horticultural therapists who will support you in learning basic horticulture skills whilst also supporting your wellbeing. The course will teach you everything from planting, watering, sowing, mulching and everything in between. As Julia always says: “gardening might not be your thing, but it’s a great thing to do whilst you figure out what your thing is.” What better way to get yourself back out there than by clearing your head at our glorious garden, and learning some new skills along the way.

The second route is the Royal Horticultural Society Level 1 qualification in Horticulture. This course is currently running 1 day a week and is delivered over 24 weeks. This is for those who think they may want to pursue a career in horticulture and would like to achieve some tangible qualifications to take to interviews to show potential employers that they’re the real deal. From learning Latin names to some more advanced horticultural terms and techniques, our current cohort are thriving and have already passed their first assessment! The next start date for this course is in February but get in touch now to reserve your space!

This really is a unique approach to Health Works for Cornwall and our main goal is to get you smiling. Interested? We recommend that you book on for a tour of the garden to meet the team and find out more about what we’re all about.
